A soapy matter

January 10th, 2012 at 01:31 am

Being a guy, I generally pay no mind to matters related to showering. Just hand me a bar of soap or something. However, I am feeling rather itchy lately. At first, I thought it could be my clothes, but now, I think it's the cold air being dry.

The itchy feeling is pretty bad though, and I think it's also irritating my throat to the point of consistent coughing.

Sooo, anybody know if that's the cause and how do I go about fixing it?

I wish I had thought of asking you guys first, but I bought one of these mitts:

I thought maybe that would help with the itching or something, and well, it does feel good. I've tried regular loofahs in the past, but they tend to fall apart after a while. Hoping something like this will hold up better.

Back to the dry throat thing, I've been hanging a wet towel in my bed room, hoping that it will help. I think it does, though I can't be sure. Also, it doesn't rid of the coughing completely. I've also been taking cough drops, which is nice until I accidentally swallow the drop and then try to cough it back up.

Yeah, so, I am a bit of a mess lately. Any advice would be appreciate. Oh, and while I'm here, any advice on cheap soap and shampoo? I don't need anything more than that, right? Like conditioners or whatever else? I'm a guy.

Try Aveeno lotion, or the generic brand, they have oatmeal in them, they are great for dry skin. I would also try using a humidifier if you have one or can borrow one. Good luck!

A cheap but very nice smelling shampoo is Suave. coconut, green apple, etc.

Yes, a wet towel won't do anything much. Get a humidifier.

Organic coconut oil is great for the skin also.

If you don't want to get a humidifier, a crock pot filled with water and set to low works well. (Don't put the lid on.) You just have to remember to keep adding water.

Itching can often be caused by a mild reaction to the coloring of your soap or the scents added. This builds up over time, so where it might not have bothered you before, it does now. Try a plain white bar of soap like Dove for sensitive skin, or Kiss My Face olive oil soap bar.

You could try a throat spray. Chloroseptic makes one. And the old stand-by Vick's Vaporub spread across your chest and throat to help inhibit coughing.

I'd get a humidifier or vaporizer as well. Small ones run about $13. You're probably snoring at night and with your mouth open like that your throat will dry out. The vaporizer will help keep the air moist.

you might try taking evening primrose oil - between 2 and 6 grams a day. It worked for me. I took 6 grams a day for 1 month and then went to 2 grams a day.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. That affects your skin, hair, everything.
