Myopic bond

April 6th, 2014 at 07:06 am

So I have another co-worker, and she and I get along well enough. However, being fairly attractive, she tends to garner quite a bit of attention from the boys if you know what I mean.

We hang out sometimes, especially when she forgets to bring lunch to work, because she knows that I would be willing to foot her lunch bill. I don't mind that part myself, since it's not a regular occurrence, and even without money talking, we do get along at work.

But we certainly share different worldviews in the world of finances. I suppose I can't entirely fault hers seeing as how she is used to other boys constantly shower her with material gifts, in a bid to impress her.

So we were just talking about her love for toy dogs, and she "jokingly" mentioned how we could split the cost for one 50-50, and it would be like we are sharing a "child" together. Mmmmmmkay.

Purebreds for these.... Teacup Toy Maltese are like no less than $300 at the very cheapest. Some of the best ones command a price as high as $4000 each.

Wow.

I mean, paying for lunch because she hasn't eaten all day is one thing, but something like this? No way.

She says that she's kidding, but there is no doubt in my mind that if I ran out there and bought her one, she would happily accept.

Except, I don't think she understands MY financial worldview yet. I just don't make a very good sugar daddy....

I agree these purebred dogs costs upward of $ 300. to whatever the dumb-dumb consumer will pay for pups from champions. The real problem for owners of inbred dogs is they're dumb as a door! Many have genes that cause medical problems later and you'll never guess how expensive vet care gets.

Much better to get a 'designer' dog like Bichon/Poo have lots of small dogs. Your co worker may not know that dogs understand that they have been rescued. Once they bond and trust you, they are incredibly loyal and will try extra hard to give the behaviour their care giver requests.

Your co worker has been successful getting what she wants with her manipulative behaviour likely since childhood. Now as an adult it's automatic. You needn't oblige, smile nod and keep your money and CC in your wallet.

    just my 0.02 cents

I just had to chuckle...she sure doesn't understand your worldview and I don't think she has any desire to. Yikes! Lots of money for a purebred. It is one thing to absolutely love this type of dog and willing to put out for it, but it sounds like, with your coworker, she thinks it is fashionable and might be feeling you out to see if you will give her what she wants. Before I read Snafu's comment, I sort of thought the same thing...I think she is using you.

@Snafu - My family had three different Maltese dogs. None of them were anywhere close to dumb. I wouldn't get a Maltese for myself, mainly because of the cost, but they are good dogs.

Lol yes, she's would probably use me for money, even if it's not consciously deliberate, but I don't let it get that far.
