I'm a member

May 2nd, 2017 at 08:12 pm

Finally finished signing up for my gym membership. At $36.50 per month, it was more than I wanted to pay, but it's also the only gym that's available in all the destinations that I am thinking about going to. Still beats the pants off of even a single night at a motel.

I also signed up for AAA. I think given my situation, this one is self-explanatory. I signed up for the basic package, which is their lowest service. but I think that's all I need really anyways, and it costs less than $50 a year.

It was raining last night. Rain on a car produces more of a tin can sound than the more soothing thuds that you hear in a house. It's a bit louder too. I don't think I've ever noticed it before simply because I was busy driving, but just lying in a car listening to this, well it certainly does seem much more noticeable. Luckily, if it ever bugs me, ear plugs will solve that minor quibble.

The building phase is almost done. At this point, I am only ironing out minor details, such as if I want to add some kind of a clothes line to dry my clothes for a bit. I will experiment with that some more tonight. Minor stuff though.

I have to plan how I am going to roll out and do things. I sure hope I don't forget anything. I probably will though. This is an completely different way of life than what I am used to so far.

I hope you've checked with your auto insurance provider as many have basic tow and tire service as part of their package. Do you need to tell your agent of the modifications you've made to your vehicle? If not informed can they arbitrarily decline a claim sometime in the future? Hmm, just a question that popped into my head...

Will you use the gym? Then it's worth it. And i agree about the modifications to car will it still be covered by insurance.

Snafu that is a very good point about included roadside assistance. I actually looked into my insurance company, and compared it with AAA. Between the two, AAA was much better. I know it's an additional cost, but AAA's reputation is built on roadside assistance. And in my position now, I simply can not take any chances.

As for the modifications affection my basic car insurance, I am not sure. That is something that I have been meaning to double check, and will do so tomorrow during business hours. In the meantime, from what I've read about others on the internet, RVs tend to have much more lax requirements than cars. It seems counterintuitive at first, but that's how they have been looking at it. In fact, when they have their modified cargo van inspected, the only thing the insurance required them to have is a drainage hole for their propane tank. This is actually one of several reasons why I decided not to opt for any type of gas cooker from early on.

But again, I will check and make sure tomorrow. Thanks for bringing this up because it's a very important point.

LAL, yes, I plan on working out and using the gym every day. That way, I will also be there to use their showers every day. I worked out today, mostly to see what the facility is like in closer inspection. It's adequate. I didn't shower there tonight though, because the place was busier than I expected, and I didn't want to hog up their one communal shower.

Update: Ok, I just spoke to my insurance agent, and she said that she can't think of anything that would change the policy nor the rate since they don't cover anything inside the vehicle anyway.
