Tired of winning yet? (Dow -2200)

April 5th, 2025 at 04:19 am

Please don't forget days like earlier today.  Please.  Don't let anyone sugar coat this, or blame it on their (Democratic) opposition, or drink the GOP apologist Koolaid that this is somehow "normal".  It's not.

The Dow hasn't fallen like this since the Covid lockdown only a few years ago, and that was a global pandemic that shuttered the entire country and its businesses.

And you know what's really sad about this whole thing?  If Trump had literally not picked up his pen to sign for a tariff war, all this could have been avoided.  All of it.  The Covid pandemic was unavoidable, but this one is.  Easily.

It's a good thing I had already liquidated my Roth IRA positions (mostly due to my weird tax situation), because otherwise, this single day would have costed me another six figures.  I mean I still lost a bunch, so that's just me trying to look at this as glass half full.

And yes, I could rant more about it, but I won't.  I know this isn't the site for politics, although I think mentioning it to some extent is also kind of inevitable, especially when it affects our life savings so directly.

Umm, winning? We lost a bunch too. And being retirement age, it is scary. We don't have decades to make it up. Fortunately we haven't had to hit our retirement accounts to live, but if prices continue, that may be a possibility.

You are correct, this is all brought about because Felon 47 instigated this. It makes one wonder if this was the plan...make the market fail, let his rich buddies buy stock at bargain basement prices, and then tweak stuff so the market goes up after the rest of us are in shock, licking our wounds. But as we know, once prices go up on things, it hardly ever goes back down. And Felon 47 said eggs have gone down 69%. I'd like to know where. Not where I live. Same price. And gas prices have increased. I don't think we are winning.

This might not be comforting, but the Dow dropped about 10,000 points between Feb 23 and March 23 2020, and made it back with a year.

Of course, we got a Democratic President who believed in investing in people not delighting in hurting them, but the market recovery started on the Felon’s watch.

I find it very comforting that this site - which was always carefully non political - now is filled with political commentary.
I hope all posters are also voters!
