Timber!

April 16th, 2026 at 07:36 pm

I mentioned earlier about a giant dead tree in my backyard that needed to come down.  Well, the day finally came, and for an entire morning, my backyard look like a construction zone:

The tree removal crew was very effective.  In fact, they were a little TOO effective.  There was a flower patch and a couple of bushes I wanted to keep, but they already cut it down before I could come out and tell them that.  In fact, they even accidentally chopped down a neighbor's tree along with it!  Oops!  I hope the neighbor isn't terribly mad at me about it.

Oh, and here is a picture of the dead tree, before it came down, where I thought it looked nice from this certain angle:

Well, the flower patch should be resurrect-able. I hope your neighbor isn't mad about the tree. Was it not on the other side of the fence?

That looks like Virginia creeper vine on the tree, a native and beneficial plant. That's pretty outrageous that the tree crew took down a neighbor's tree as well. Do you know why that happened?

Dido: Well, he hasn’t kicked down my door or anything, and I know him well enough to know that he is more relieved that my dead tree is finally taken cared of. What’s done is done I think, but it doesn’t stop me from feeling bad, knowing how much he adored taking care of his own backyard.

But yeah, the neighbor’s tree was really more on his property than mine. I don’t know if the work crew couldn’t tell from where they were standing, but it seemed clear enough to me from where I was standing. For this neighbor and his tree, we don’t have a fence between us. I might get fencing down the road though. Considering it anyway, especially if I plan to get a pet or some better privacy, because my neighbors can be a bit nosy as well….

PatientSaver: Sooo, I was told the morning that the tree removal crew would arrive, but not the exact time other than that “morning”. Imagine my own surprise when I was awakened by the sound of all the chainsaws and equipment in my backyard. I got up, got dressed, and went to see what’s going on. By the time I saw it, it was already too late. That’s what I meant by the crew being TOO effective. The entire place was pretty much already leveled, including the neighbor’s tree! Granted, I also don’t have a big backyard to begin with.

Is that what that vine is? That’s very astute of you, and it’s good to know that it’s actually beneficial somehow. In that case, I feel a bit more at ease, as there is plenty more of that growing along the neighbor’s wooden fence, some of which you can also see in the first picture. Personally, I was worried that it was some kind of kudzu that was starting to invade our collective backyards, and I can’t do much about what’s over in the neighbor’s yards.
